• Math – I use the Everyday Math Program with a focus on exploring math concepts through hands-on activities
• Reading - Following the Pam Allen Units of Study, I use a workshop model approach, evaluating students’ reading development using the Bonnie Campbell-Hill Continuum
• Students in my class use podcasts to record their reading responses
• I administer DRA testing twice a year, developing instructional strategies based on the data
• Social Studies - I teach physical and human geography through a variety of interactive activities: flight simulation game, exploration using Google Earth, student generated multi-media productions (Powerpoint, web-cam video), and a research-based country projects culminating in a “Display of Nations” open house for parents and other classes
• Science – I utilize FOSS science kits and other resources to teach units on the human body, electricity/magnetism, and space
• My instruction emphasizes “hands-on” activities
