Research Experience

STUDY ON CAO ZHIBAI'S SNOW LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Jan 2021-Mar 2021

  • Analyzed the way in which Cao Zhibai, a painter of the Yuan Dynasty, used snow scenery and landscape to create artistic conception in his paintings.
  • Studied the reasons for the changes of his early and late painting styles from the perspective of social factors, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism culture.

THE INFLUENCE OF THE EASTWARD SPREAD OF WESTERN PAINTING IN THE MING & QING DYNASTIES ON THE CHINESE GUANYIN SCHEMA

Nov 2021-Present

  • Suggested how the Chinese Guanyin painting was affected by the Western virgin image, and the influence of Western religious oil paintings and prints on Chinese paintings in the Ming & Qing Dynasties.
  • Conducted the visual comparison methodology to identify the elements of Western painting that were incorporated into Chinese painting during the period, centering on the works of artist Wu Bin(1550-1643).

RESEARCH ON THE ART VILLAGE CONSTRUCTION

May 2022-Apr 2023

  • Analyzed the current situation of “hollow villages” in China and conducted case studies on different modes of artistic rural construction.
  • Explored issues such as the identity of artists and villagers in art rural construction, and the significance of art in reconstructing local culture from the perspective of art anthropology.
  • Provided strategies for art village construction through on-site investigation and shared the research experience in art village construction through live interviews.

JIANGNAN TRADITIONAL ART COLLECTION RESEARCH PROJECT

Sep 2021-Present

  • Participated in the compilation and creation of the book “Research on the Identification of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting” (Jiangsu University Press), sorted out key identification points of works of well-known painters like Qi Baishi, and illustrated modern scientific and technological appraisal methods.
  • Analyzed the political and social significance of artworks for officials based on literature related to hedonic objects in Ming Dynasty, and clarified the identity of Han Shineng as a communicator in the southern flow of ancient artworks in the mid Ming Dynasty.
  • Finished the paper named From Soochow to Peking: Study on the Appreciation and Collection of Han Shineng.

CURATION AND DISPLAY IN ART & DESIGN ( Online Research Seminar)

  • Learned the fundamentals of both theory and practice of curation and display in art and design.

RESEARCH ON THE QING DYNASTY ARTIST YUAN YAO

  • Outlined the life trajectory of Yuan Yao, a representative figure of paintings in the late Qing Dynasty, through the existing works research, and analyzed the innovation and technical characteristics of Yuan Yao’s paintings.
  • Compared the different demands for art between Anhui merchants and Shanxi merchants in the Yangzhou region during the Qing Dynasty
