Senior SCADA & IIOT Engineer

  • Investigated & developed a new IIOT commercial offering using LoRaWAN devices, Chirpstack network server and an on premises Thingsboard platform running Ubuntu Linux.
  • Developed a project using Ignition 8 (with Perspective HMI) as an application server collecting data from LoraWan devices from a Chirpstack network server over MQTT to monitor reservoir levels.
  • Developed a LoRaWAN solution for collecting environmental conditions from a Marine Department (HK) vessel and uploading to AWS IOT for end user analysis.
  • Supervised a condition based maintenance project to use machine learning to predict shaft misalignment, unbalance and loose foot of a pump using FFTs, Python and Keras.
  • Migrated an on site Pi Server to Azure & installed a new Pi Vision system for Marubeni Power Asset Management.
  • Performed cybersecurity system hardening on Cimplicty operator workstations for CLP.
  • Assisted in setting up Factory Talk View SE & ME for a number of projects.
  • Trained on Tenable OT (previously Indegy) cybersecurity platform and prepared a demo kit using multiple PLCs (Schneider, Siemens and Allen Bradley), which I then used to present the features to clients.

  • Installed and deployed a Spacewalk Patch Management System on Centos for patch management of all virtual machines in the server farm.
  • Acted as a system administrator of the legacy mongoDB historian used by WSD.
  • Supervised & acted as a consultant on a new historian development using mongoDB & DNP3 developed by ASTRI for Water Supplies Department (HK).

  • Responsibilities remained the same as before, primarily providing support (both technical and account manager) to the Water Supplies Department of HK.

  • Performed a site survey on 2 potential Oil & Gas customers in South East Asian on the possibility of adding a SCADA system to their production fields. Gave a technical and sales presentation to management at the conclusion.

  • Stationed in Hong Kong in charge of local and regional operations.
  • Supporting one of Datac’s largest customers, the Water Supplies Department (WSD), ensuring that all WSD installations functioned correctly, all new projects completed to satisfaction and helping to win new orders.
  • WSD's telemetry system consisted of approximately 25 Datac SCADA systems (Realflex) and approximately 300 remote telemetry units (RTU) and programmable logic controllers (PLC) of which approximately two thirds were Datac manufactured.
  • Met with customer regularly to identify any new potential orders, and identify areas where service could be improved.
  • Liaised with the local support team to manage and rectify SCADA & RTU faults within WSD in a timely manner, as well as minor modifications of their SCADA & RTUs.
  • Prepared quotations, invoices, and tender submissions and passed purchase orders back to head office and ensuring the ordered equipment was received in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Supervised an IT company in migrating the WSD historian system to a virtualised VMware ESXi platform.
  • Helped win and managed a major tender to completion to implement a real-time optimal pumping and control system in WSD using real time & historical SCADA data to intelligently predict the water demands of the water supply network and ultimately reduces electricity usage.
  • Helped win and install a large order from WSD to develop and install a large scale but efficient historian using mongoDB, for collecting all SCADA data and making it available to non-SCADA users over the client’s intranet on a web browser or Excel.
  • Made a number of overseas site trips to existing and new customers in Cebu Philippines (Electricity), Kuwait (Oil & Gas), Western Desert of Egypt (Oil & Gas).
