My role as an Operations manager for APM Terminals to manage depot and trucking services whilst driving business performance.

The Port Elizabeth Inland Operation is responsible for empty and full container storage, handling and container repairs as well as a trucking operation whose primary activity is to transport international import and export containers.

The operation predominantly provides a service to the shipping lines as well as clearing agents, transporters and cargo owners.

My role as Operations manager is tactical and strategic in nature, with specific focus on driving profitability, taking accountability for operational effectiveness, driving compliance to HSSE and Employee relations legislation, customer focus and Managing relationships with key customers, seeking commercial growth opportunities within the Port Elizabeth area and lead and develop a strong and competent depot team

• Support 8 depots in western region with continuous improvement initiatives to improve performance and efficiencies through providing processes and systems to measure and report on performance, Identify performance gaps, launch improvement initiatives across all levels of operations as Lean six sigma green belt, LSS Yellow belt, Kaizens, PDCAs
• Coaching and train the team members and guide them through the different problem-solving strategies
• Ensuring that new processes and systems are developed/updated and the improvements are monitored and sustained over long periods to continuously improve the organization's performance and customer satisfaction.

• Maintain a safe, reliable, available and effective Rail Network Infrastructure through the cost effective management of the annual allocated financial budgets (COPEX and OPEX), human resources, and material quantities to meet train service requirements and to ensure compliance to Safety and Environmental standards
• Responsible for developing and implementing engineering and maintenance systems
• Directing and advising on strategic decisions to establish technical solutions for effective maintenance and use of the Rail network infrastructure in the 760km track Infrastructure
• Work as head of all the departments for the rail network infrastructure multidisciplinary maintenance depot
• Responsible for perfomance across Civil engineering department (Permanent way), Electrical engineering department (OHTE and Substations), Signalling department (train movement controls and train monitoring equipment) Telecoms department (Communications equipment) and the Technical support department (off-track maintenance and the Mechanical workshop)
• The KPI's are 100% execution of planned maintenance, % productivity by team work centre, Execution of work within planned budget and Mean time to repair of faults and breakdowns, reduction of breakdowns and reduction of the impact to business due to the unavailability of the infrastructure

• Lead the design, planning and implementation & tracking of all projects within the Region of Rail network that are Capex and Copex funded
• Perform the interface role between maintenance depots and capital program for Capex projects in developing projects scopes, specifications and business cases
• Design and cost effectively manage TFR strategic related projects and other cross functional business related innovative programs from conception to completion in accordance to the TFR business objectives and approved projects and ensure operational readiness for all projects and the 7 year plan for the region.
